In Memory of Noel Higgins

On Sunday, April 22nd, Wakefield Soccer Association (WSA) lost one of its founding Fathers when Noel Higgins passed away at the age of 68. Besides being one of the original founders of WSA back in the early 1970s, Noel led the boys youth soccer team to a state championship, and also led the Wakefield High School girls team to a state championship. He was also inducted into the Wakefield High School Hall of Fame.

Beyond his wins and losses, Noel was also well known as being a bit of a “Santa Claus” within the youth program, often paying the tuition bill for those kids who couldn’t afford it, as well as buying uniforms and equipment out of his own pocket. Noel had an incredible passion for the game of soccer and he laid a strong foundation for what has now become a 1,200 player youth program in Wakefield. All of us who have either had the honor to know him first hand or have benefitted in so many ways from his vision, owe him a great deal of debt and thanks. Rest in peace Coach!
